2020 Polestar 2
The Polestar 2, called, from the name itself, the 'Garden
Submarine', is an ingenious design. It was built by making use of the netting
used in wicker baskets and canopies, but this time they have added a few extra
items to make it better suited to a sports car. The result is a model that
looks great but drives well too. Now you can buy one for yourself.
The Garden Submarine started life as a working model as a
mini electric car, which promised to be an attractive family vehicle and could
provide all the power and speed of a sports car but without needing a bigger,
and more expensive, engine. Although they have made it look good, the Polestar
has a low-down in its handling, although you should know that it has a low
centre of gravity, and very low curb weight. So it handles quite well and
really is a good looking model.
They claim that the electric power available is not a lot
compared to a sports car engine, and so the performance of the car is not
affected in any way. They are a clever sort and decided to add the nets and
netting to both the front and rear to improve traction when running over curbs
or smooth roads.

You get a big engine with a torque-vectoring system. This is
a bit like a twin-clutch gearbox technology which means that torque is created
in the middle of the engine rotation and then sent to either the front or rear
wheels. This helps the car to use its power better, so it accelerates better
and also makes the car more responsive.
At the front there is a single exhaust pipe, and at the rear
there is a two-pipe system. The exhausts are placed in the front so the engine
can be pushed out slightly further into the wind. This is particularly useful
on the motorways as it allows the car to run quicker in the faster lanes.
The Polestar is therefore very easy to drive, especially in
your own car. However, many critics have noted that the car feels 'cute' but
the tyres are not made for speed, and this may mean that you need to find a
suitable track for it to do well. In any case, it is a really nice model.
The 2020 Polestar 2 carries over some of the improvements that
were incorporated into the first version, such as the tilting roof. However,
this time around, the whole roof was tilted to allow the rear tyres to have
more grip.
